ThermAdapt: Calls for travel grants, training courses, workshops

In 2006 ESF launched a Programme entitled
"Thermal adaptation in ectotherms: Linking life history, physiology, behaviour and genetics" (ThermAdapt) - web link: http://www.esf.org/thermadapt.

The Objective of this ESF Programme is to foster a multidisciplinary European network of scientists working on thermal adaptation. We particularly aim to integrate research at multiple levels of investigation, including genetics, physiology, ecology, behaviour or theory. Interested persons or groups are encouraged to join our activities. These include advertising their expertise via our web site, and participation in various activities to be announced separately and regularly over the next5 years such as workshops, training courses, short and long exchange grants, exchange of specimens and expertise, sharing of facilities, and scientific collaboration of any kind.

1. Call for travel grants


ThermAdapt offers two types of travel grants:

Exchange Grants
(15 days to 3 months)

Short Visit Grants
(<15 days)

Applications can be submitted at any time. They will be reviewed each quarter (i.e. early March, June, September and December).
Applications should be submitted one month before the intended start of the visit at the latest .


2. Call for training courses

ThermAdapt invites proposals from potential organisers of training courses within its realm.
Such training courses, bring together between 10 and 50 participants (including students, but also teachers) for 2 to 5 days to learn about specific techniques necessary to conduct research on thermal adaptation at all levels..
Training Course applications will be chosen based on scientific quality.

Priority will be given to applicants coming from or intending to visit countries supporting the programme (Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland), but other nations can be involved also.
Training course applications should be received at least 3 months before they are intended to take place.

3. Call for workshops

ThermAdapt invites proposals from potential organisers of workshops /science meetings on topics with a clear connection to the programme.

Priority will be given to workshops taking place in countries that financially support the
Programme: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland.

Specific priority ranking (starting from highest to lowest priority):

- funding states at both ends
- Applicants from funding states to non-funding States
- Applicants from non-funding states to funding States
- Applicants from non-funding states to non-funding States

Workshop applications should be received at least 3 months before they are intended to take place.
