The Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre (BiK-F) is a new interdisciplinary institute with the mission to carry out internationally outstanding research on the interactions of biodiversity and climate change on the organism level. It has been founded by Senckenberg Gesellschaft fuer Naturforschung, the Goethe-University Frankfurt am Main, and others partners. The Centre is funded by the Federal State of Hesse through its Initiative for the Development of Scientific and Economic Excellence (LOEWE). It provides a new, dynamic research environment that integrates a variety of disciplines from both natural and social sciences. Postdoctoral Researcher “Population ecology”
Project B2.11 [Ref. #B23]

The successful applicant will investigate the impact of climatic factors and/or land-use on the population ecology of vertebrates. The focus will be on the empirical or statistical analysis of the population dynamics, abundance and/or geographic ranges of vertebrates. More specific topics could be the impact of climate change on the population dynamics of birds, the impact of climate and land-use change on the abundance and range size of large herbivores in African savannahs or the development of indices on the impact of climate change on biodiversity. The taxonomic focus should be on birds or large mammals.
The applicant should hold a Ph.D. in ecology or a related field, and have a solid background in population ecology, strong skills in advanced statistical analyses and an interest in birds or mammals. He or she is expected to develop joint research projects, to write funding proposals, to engage in the supervision of Ph.D. and masters students and to contribute to teaching. A solid publication record, good written and oral communication skills, and the willingness to develop collaborations within the working group and the center as a whole are required.

Salary and benefits are according to a public service position in Germany (TV-H E 13).
