We are looking for a postdoc (full-time; salary level TV-L 13) who will strengthen the research profile of the Behavioural Ecology group (Prof. Dr. Jutta M. Schneider) either by broadening our scope and/or by bringing in new methods. We are interested in questions concerning sexual selection, the evolution of mating systems, parental investment, social behaviour and life-history and we mostly use spiders as model systems. Ideally you have experience in one of these fields, use experimental methods and work on invertebrates (research with vertebrates is logistically problematic). Highly welcome are candidates who fit into the department's research focus on hybrids, who are interested in genomics of spiders and have experience with molecular methods. We offer the opportunity to develop an independent research profile and to acquire independent funding. Post-doc experience is a plus and we expect that you enjoy teaching and supervision of student projects. We provide a dynamic, interactive and friendly atmosphere regularly enriched by international guests and students. The teaching duty is 5 hours per week (5LVS) during the semester and comprises courses at the bachelor and master level. Since many of our courses are taught in German, command of the German language is an advantage.

The position is for 3 years with a possible extension of another 3 years and is available from March 2018.

Requirements are:

  • A university degree in a relevant subject plus doctorate;
  • Peer-reviewed publications in behavioral ecology, evolutionary ecology or arachnology;
  • Expertise in statistics;
  • High motivation and ability to work in a team;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English;
