The Department of Behavioral Physiology & Sociobiology (Zoology II) at the Biocenter, Julius-Maximilians- University of Würzburg, Germany invites applications for a

postdoctoral research associate position

(payscale according to TV-L or Besoldungsgruppe A 13). T

he position is in the laboratory of Keram Pfeiffer and will initially be for three years, with the possibility of extension. The ideal starting date is June 1st 2017, but a later date is negotiable. The position offers the opportunity to develop and pursue independent research projects. Habilitation is possible, if desired. The position includes teaching responsibilities (in English or German).

Our group aims to create an international work environment and therefore encourages international applicants to apply. Our group is interested in the neuronal basis of insect behavior, with a specific focus on spatial orientation and visual signal processing. Research methods include electrophysiology, 2-photon Ca-imaging, behavioral experiments, neuroanatomy, and modelling.

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist holding a PhD in Neuroscience, Physics, Engineering or another related discipline. The ideal candidate has a strong interest in insect vision and/or orientation, is highly skilled in electrophysiological methods or Ca-imaging, and should be able to work both independently and as part of a team. Good verbal and written English communication skills are expected.

Programming skills in Matlab, Spike2, Python or other programming languages will be highly beneficial. Technical knowledge (especially electronics) is helpful.
