Animal Ecology

The animal ecology group in Potsdam works on topics of behavioural ecology such as reproductive strategies, adaptations to predation risk, or behavior in anthropogenic landscapes. We work in large outdoor enclosures, a behavioural lab, and with wild populations of animals in the field, mainly using small mammals as our study system. We are part of the graduate school BioMove (Biodiversity and movement ecology) and the Berlin-Brandenburg of Biodiversity (BBIBs).

The candidate is expected to conduct research complementing our profile. We expect continuation of publishing, the potential to aquire independent dfg research grants, an interest in joined research with the group, enjoyment of teaching and supervision, and an affinity to experimental work and advanced statistics. Responsibilities:

  • Research activity in the field of terrestrial animal ecology /behavioural ecology connecting to our facilities and/or research topics
  • Teaching and Supervision of Master and Bachelorstudents
  • Acquisition of funding for and supervision of own doctoral students

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in animal ecology / behavioural ecology

Under the laws of the federal state of Brandenburg, employees under this contract are permitted to dedicate at least 33% of their contract time for their scientific qualification (Habilitation). The salary is determined by the collective bargaining agreement for public employees in Germany (TV-L 13 Ost). This is a temporary position limited to a max of 3+3 years in accordance with Section 2 subsection 1 of the Academic Fixed-Term Contract Law (WissZeitVG).

The number of teaching hours (4 SWS) complies with the applicable provisions of the Teaching Obligation Ordinance (Lehrverpflichtungsverordnung, or LehrVV) of the federal state of Brandenburg as well as the teaching load regulations approved by the Senate of the University of Potsdam:
