Bachelor thesis available on bird migration over the German Bight

A Bachelor thesis is available in the BIRDMOVE project at the Institute of Avian Research, Wilhelmshaven in spring 2018. We use an automated array of radio telemetry receiver stations located at the German Bight to follow individual flyways of small passerine birds along the coast and offshore. While general migration routes are quite well known, information on individual birds’ decisions, especially in nocturnal migrants, is still scarce. In order to learn more about such decisions, the successful candidate will combine radiotelemetry data, state of birds and weather conditions during departure in order to investigateintrinsic and extrinsic factors determining individual flight route decisions. More information on the project can be found on our website:

If you are happy to work in the field, even under difficult conditions, do have some experience in catching and handling birds and are available from March 2018, please send a short CV and letter of motivation to Vera Brust (
