The Department of Molecular Neurobiology of Behavior at theUniversity of Göttingen seeks to fill the position of a

Research Associate (Postdoc)

with 100% of the regular working hours (currently 39,8 hours per week) for up to three years with a possible extension of another three year extension. The position should be filled by February 28, 2018. Salary will be according to German pay grade E-13 TV-L.

he Department of Prof. André Fiala uses Drosophila melanogaster to analyze neuronal circuits and synaptic plasticity underlying learning and memory formation. A variety of methods are applied, ranging from molecular biology, neurogenetics, immunehistochemsitry, multiphoton-microscopy, in vivo calcium imaging and optogenetics to behavioral analyses. We seek an excellent, motivated and creative scientist with experience in neurobiology of Drosophila. We offer a stimulating and collaborative research environment in an international team, state-of-the-art facilities, mentoring andscientific career support.


  • Independent and responsible conception, coordination and conductance of research projects in the field of Drosophila neurobiology with an emphasis on neuronal mechanisms of learning and memory.
  • Participation in teaching courses and in examinations in the Department „Molecular Neurobiology of Behavior“
  • Supervision of Bachelor, Master and PhD students

Your Profile

  • PhD degree in Biology
  • Research experience in Drosophila neurobiology
  • Very good English language abilities; knowledge of the German language is advantageous
  • Experience in teaching and publishing
  • Very good programming skills

The position is designed to promote young academics and offers the successful candidate the possibility to acquire the Habilitation degree.
