This symposium brings together PhD students from different disciplines in the field of wildlife research (biologists & veterinarians) with interest in both wild and captive animals in an informal meeting. The symposium offers the possibility to present and discuss your research in a less official but highly motivated mainly student audience.

We are very pleased to announce the attendance of four external specialists from the field of conservation biology in our symposium:

·          Professor Michael W. Bruford, School of Biosciences, Cardiff University

·          Professor Herbert H. T. Prins, Resource Ecology, Wageningen University

·          Professor Jörg U. Ganzhorn, Ecology & Nature Conservation, University of Hamburg

·          Roland Wirth, President of the Zoological Society of the Conservation of Species and ---------------------------- Populations (ZGAP)

The experts are invited to give an overview about their own research, to discuss with us the application of research results, and to deliver insights into the transfer from science to nature conservation from their own wealth of experience.

Registration is open, please send your abstract until the 15th of August 2008. To create an ambience suitable for intense and productive discussions the number of participants is limited to 60. Please indicate in your abstract if you intend to give an oral presentation or if you prefer to present a poster. Final selection will be done by the end of July. For the abstract guidelines please have a look at our homepage.

The symposium will be held in English. Conference fee will be 10 €, accommodation will be private with the IZW PhD students or in a youth hostel. Food, travel expenses and accommodation in the youth hostel are not covered by the conference fee. Registration in Berlin starts on 10th of September at 2 pm at the IZW. At 5 pm we will guide you to your overnight accommodation and meet later on for a welcome beer.

Come to Berlin in September, present your work, discuss your ideas, meet new collaborators, and get feedback on your work and your presentation!
