The ZIBI-International Summer School on Pathogen-Host-Interplay will be held from 22 July to 04 August 2007. Registration will be in the afternoon of the 22 July 2007, followed by a short introduction of the faculty and the participants and an informal dinner at a restaurant in Berlin.
The DAAD funded ZIBI-International Summer School Host-Pathogen-Interplay will give insight into the biology of different pathogens such as viruses, bacteria, and parasites and how the adaptive and innate immune system of the host responds to them. The aim is to provide a comprehensive understanding of these host-pathogen interactions and to bring students up-to-date with the ongoing research. The program is organised in different workshops which consists of lectures, practical demonstrations, and lab exercises. Students will also have the opportunity to meet and discuss with international top scientists who will give special lectures about their work. The workshops concentrate on different pathogen groups to answer the following questions:
- Which factors cause pathogenesis?
- How do the pathogens invade the host or host cells?
- Which structures or molecules of the pathogens are recognised by the innate and adaptive immune system?
- How do the pathogens circumvent host responses?
- Which regulation mechanisms uses the immune system to react towards the pathogens?
