The DZG Fachgruppe Behavioural Biology and the Ethologischen Gesellschaft jointly support and organize a meeting for graduate students (PhD students) to present and discuss their research in an informal environment. The meeting will be hosted at the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology in Seewiesen that has a long history of research in animal behaviour. With this meeting, we want to foster contacts and networking among graduate students interested in animal behaviour.

Invited speakers
Prof. Fritz Trillmich (Bielefeld):
Parent-offspring conflict about weaning

Prof. Judith Korb (Osnabrück):
What makes a termite queen: from ecology to genes

Prof. Wolfgang Wickler will give a review of the history of animal behaviour research in Seewiesen.

Participants will have the opportunity to visit ongoing research projects at the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology. We also will have a round table discussion on research and career opportunities in behavioural biology with the invited speakers, organizers and Seewiesen staff scientists.

Organizers
Björn Siemers (Seewiesen, siemers@orn.mpg.de) & Jana Eccard (Potsdam)
Spokespersons of the DZG Fachgruppe Behavioural Biology

Registration
For registration, please send an email to Mrs. Ilse Bayer, MPI for Ornithology, Seewiesen, bayer@orn.mpg.de

Deadline for registration: October 9th 2009

When registering, please provide name, institute, email, your current stage (e.g., 1st or 3rd year of PhD), title of your contribution, meal requirements (carnivore or vegetarian), and preference for talk or poster. We encourage all participants to present a talk, but depending on the number of participants, might have to reschedule some talks to posters.

The meeting targets PhD students, but finishing Diploma or Masters students and early PostDocs will also be considered if space is available. We are trying to have the costs for food and accommodation for two nights not above 50 €.
